Digital Strategy, AI, and Data-Driven Business

Digital Strategy, AI, and Data-Driven Business is a study module in the Leading Digital Transformation program and can also be taken as a stand-alone program.

The role of information technology in companies has gradually shifted from supporting the core business to a central resource for companies’ value creation and competitive strategies. Companies that have yet to undergo a digital transformation risk being left behind, while industry leaders are using data and smart algorithms ever more broadly to better serve their customers and create value for shareholders. The recent advances in generative AI, and particularly large language models, underline the importance of digitalization in all industries.

Digital capabilities allow a fundamental shift in value creation, as human routines are gradually replaced with smart and adaptive processes run by real-time data streams and algorithms. These changes are associated with a shift towards digital ecosystems and platforms. To prosper in this new digitalized reality, firms must embed themselves effectively in collaborative networks and develop new business models to capture value.

The Digital Strategy, AI, and Data-Driven Business module provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the ongoing changes in strategy and management practice brought by contemporary digital technologies. The readings, case studies, and class discussions will help you understand how to rethink the sources of competitive advantage, offerings, and the broader operating model at a traditional company.

The module will enable the participants to:

  • Understand the technical changes, economic logic, and new business models driving the ongoing digital transformation across diverse industries
  • Identity, forecast, and respond to changes taking place in an industry, including the shift towards digital ecosystems
  • Analyse and formulate strategies related to digital solutions, ecosystems, and platforms
  • Understand the new managerial mindset and strategic priorities associated with effective use of contemporary digital technologies
  • Design new business processes and business models related to generative AI.

4.5 ECTS credits can be transferred from the Digital Strategy, AI, and Data-Driven Business program to the Aalto Executive MBA or Aalto MBA program.
