Explore New and Scalable Business Opportunities
The Business Model Development program trains participants to explore, validate, and scale new business models and/or renew existing ones. Participants will go back to their organizations with proven tools and practices to systematically build new, scalable businesses with greater agility, customer centricity, and innovativeness. At first, the program introduces approaches and methods to test hypotheses underlying your strategy and to gain better understanding of your positioning and the dynamics of competition in the market. Then participants will work with state-of-the art methodologies such as value proposition development, business model development, and customer development in their search for novel and scalable business opportunities that create value for customers and align with corporate strategy.

Find the Problem to Solve – Acquire tools and practices to identify unmet customer pain points and develop ways to capture and deliver value to your customers
Validate Your Value – Learn practices to systematically gather customer and competitor insights that differentiate your solution and validate the scalability of your business model
Communicate the Value – Learn how to optimize your go to market strategies to take your idea to the market and gain traction with customers
The program is worth 4.5 ECTS credits, which can be transferred to the Aalto EMBA or Aalto MBA program.
Business Model Development is a three-day module in the Diploma in Commercial Excellence program and can also be taken as a stand-alone program.

Contents and Schedule
The program introduces tools and approaches to gain better understanding of the competitive dynamics in the market, and to test hypotheses underlying your strategy and competitive advantage. Participants learn and practice market proven tools and methods to explore new and scalable business opportunities that create value for your customers.
We will complete the module through a mix of group activities, lectures, and class discussions. Experiential hands-on learning will be strongly emphasized. During the sessions, you will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone and experience a disruptive environment.
The program contains a written pre-assignment and a take-home assignment. The program is worth 4.5 ECTS credits.

Mikko Laukkanen
Mikko Laukkanen is Post-Doctoral Researcher at Aalto University School of Business and Academic Director at Aalto University Executive Education.
Dr. Laukkanen specializes in customer experience management, service design and service business, strategic marketing, business model innovation, and innovation management.
He has an extensive background of consulting and research projects with large international firms, and is a well-liked lecturer and sought-after public speaker. He has pioneered a number of experiential teaching methods in his executive and university teaching.
At Aalto University Executive Education, Dr. Laukkanen works as the Academic Director, and is responsible for the academic quality of Aalto EE’s extensive portfolio of programs.
Mikko Laukkanen has a Doctor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Aalto University School of Business.

Fabian Sepulveda
Dr. Fabian Sepulveda has more than 20 years of experience in engineering, management consulting, and investment banking at companies such as Lucent Technologies, A.T. Kearney, and J.P. Morgan.
He is actively involved in Finland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem as a start-up coach and Lean Launchpad® trainer, and helps organizations understand and execute Lean Start-up methodologies and customer development. He teaches Venture Formation and other courses at the Aalto Ventures Program and Aalto University Executive Education

Kenneth Salonius
Kenneth Salonius is a founder and CEO at Vertical.
Kenneth’s expertise is in helping corporations build their future in markets that are under disruptions, having a particular focus on customer- and user-centric development and building value through collaboration. Kenneth and his team are specialized in strategy and business development, service design and new ways of working. They have particular focus on the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors but have a vast amount of experience in the industrial sector, energy, media and retail markets.
Kenneth has also co-founded Upgraded (former HealthSPA), the largest health & wellness company ecosystem in Nordics. He is also an advisor to the Board of Directors at HealthTech Finland among holding several other positions of trust.
