Meet Our Faculty

Kristiina Lillqvist

Kristiina Lillqvist is a highly qualified wood science researcher and educator with a strong academic background and industry connections. She is a Senior University Lecturer at Aalto University in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems.

Lillqvist has years of experience in developing online learning experiences with a student-centric teaching philosophy. In her research, she focuses on improving the properties of wood by different modification methods in the Wood Material Science research group.

Kristiina Lillqvist holds a doctoral degree in Wood Technology from Aalto University (2014) and has completed Professional Teacher Education.

Jorma Kyyrä

Jorma Kyyrä is a head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Aalto University.

Jorma Kyyrä received the M.Sc., Lic.Sc., and D.Sc. degrees from the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK), which is now Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, in 1987, 1991, and 1995, respectively.

Since 1985, he has been with the university in various positions. Since 1996, he has been an Associate Professor of power electronics, and since 1998, a Professor of power electronics. From 2008 to 2009, he has been the Dean with the Faculty of Electronics, Communications and Automation, TKK, and from 2009 to 2011, the Vice President of Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. He is currently the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Aalto University. His research interest is power electronics at large. The power electronics group at Aalto University has expertise, e.g., in power electronics for ac drives, dc–dc converters, modeling of converters, filtering of EMI, power factor correction, and distributed power systems.

Magnus Hellström

Dr. Magnus Hellström is a Professor of Industrial Management at Åbo Akademi University, with expertise in project management, process scheduling, and product development.

Based in Turku, Finland, he has over two decades of academic and industry experience, contributing to fields such as energy systems and shipbuilding.

Zhengmao Li

Dr. Zhengmao Li is an Associate Professor at Aalto University, specializing in AI-driven energy systems and renewable energy technologies.

With a distinguished academic and research career, he has published over 40 journal articles, including multiple highly cited papers and pioneering studies recognized by IEEE. Dr. Li's expertise spans smart grids, integrated energy systems, green hydrogen, and advanced optimization techniques.

Antti Peltokorpi

Antti Peltokorpi is an Associate Professor of operations management in construction at Aalto University, Department of Civil Engineering.

In his research he has focused on modularity and industrialization in construction, AI and data-based transformation of the sector, and digital supply chain management. He has over 100 scientific publications on these topics. Peltokorpi is also a Vice Dean for Impact at School of Engineering. Besides his academic merits, he works in close collaboration with the AEC industry.

Edris Pouresmaeil

Edris Pouresmaeil is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation (EEA) and serves as the head of the Renewable Energies for Power Systems group at Aalto University in Finland.

Pouresmaeil has held various positions at esteemed institutions around the world, including the ESTIA Institute of Technology in France, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Denmark, and the University of Waterloo (UW) in Canada.

Dr. Pouresmaeil's research expertise lies in the operation and control of power electronics in power systems, the integration of renewable energy sources into power grids, microgrid operations, and control, as well as the modeling and development of hybrid energy storage systems centered around green hydrogen.

Samuel Cross

Sam Cross is a distinguished sustainable energy expert and educator with over 20 years of international experience in renewable energy, energy policy, and electrification.

Based in Helsinki, Finland, Sam Cross is currently the Coordinator of the Aalto Hydrogen Innovation Center and the Energy Sector Manager at Aalto University. In these roles, Cross fosters collaboration among academia, industry, and policymakers to advance the hydrogen economy and sustainable energy solutions.

Olli Seppänen

Olli Seppänen is an Associate professor of operations management in construction at Aalto University, Department of Civil Engineering.

He has focused on lean and digital production planning and control and design management. He has over 100 scientific publications on these topics and has also 15 years of practical consulting experience before joining academia.
