Health Technology Product Development
A practice-oriented program for health technology professionals looking to strengthen their expertise in product development, regulatory strategy, and the end-to-end planning of health technology projects.
The health technology landscape is distinct from many other commercial and development sectors. Innovating in this space requires more than just excellent software or cutting-edge hardware; it demands a convergence of clinical efficacy, regulatory strategy, data governance, and user-centered processes. A flaw in any one of these pillars can stall a product, no matter how technically brilliant it may be.
Throughout this course, you will learn more about the challenges and opportunities for development in the sector and engage in discussion with both your peers and the facilitators. By the conclusion of this program, you will have been introduced to tools and concepts that will help you create a comprehensive blueprint for planning your development projects in the health technology space.
The course consists of 10 online lectures that are recorded for later viewing, keynote presentations, practical exercises, and project work. Studies can be completed flexibly alongside work. The course is free of charge for participants.

The training has been funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE). Content and Schedule
The program consists of 10 lectures, which you can attend live online or watch as recordings afterwards. In addition to the lectures, the program includes keynote speeches, practical exercises, and a project assignment. The program is designed to be completed alongside work and is delivered entirely online.

Instructors
Ivan Vujaklija
Associate Professor Ivan Vujaklija (Aalto University) leads the Bionic and Rehabilitation Engineering research group, working at the intersection of health technology, human–machine interfacing, and rehabilitation robotics.
He also acts as the director of the Health Technology Engineering Master's Program. Vujaklija holds a PhD in human medicine (University of Göttingen) and has industry experience from Ottobock Healthcare GmbH, a leading prosthetics manufacturer, where he worked on translating research into medical products. His subsequent fellowships at Arizona State University and the Medical University of Vienna have seen him working closely with diverse experts on the development of clinical robots and interfaces. At his postdoctoral posting at Imperial College London, his work resulted in a patent for methods for human–robot interaction. He has contributed to pioneering work on non-invasive spinal interfacing and a technology-driven surgical paradigm for limb reconstruction which is now slowly becoming a clinical state-of-the-art, providing him with extensive experience in product and service development, clinical translation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in health technology.
Vikki Eriksson
Vikki Eriksson is a design researcher and lecturer, focusing on contexts and theories that influence modern product development practice.
Her interest in the fields of design thinking, user experience, and service design has led to international research collaborations and a doctorate exploring the socio-technical experience of online services. As an avid advocate of designerly thinking, she consults and develops practical frameworks for product development and for the use of design methods in research. Her research interests include speculative design and future studies, design for sustainability, and design for radical innovation.
As the Head of Research at Aalto University Design Factory, she supports a team of researchers and educators who explore innovation practices, organizational development, and the potential of design-driven approaches to achieve positive societal impact.
Before joining Aalto University, Eriksson was a tenured academic in South Africa and a director of Innovative Design Education Africa, a non-profit organization facilitating design-driven innovation workshops with various start-ups and larger organizations. She is a board member of the Pan-African Design Institute.
