Meet Our Faculty

Christel Berghäll

Christel Berghäll’s expertise lies in coaching senior executives, developing senior teams, and developing leadership cultures to drive needed changes to achieve business objectives and implement the strategy.

Her career has been international throughout and she has worked and lived in Finland, Germany, Spain and China and worked as a short-term expert in Africa for many years.

Berghäll brings with her experience both from the corporate and entrepreneurial world. She previously worked as a human resources senior executive at Amer Sports Corporation and YIT Corporation and as a Business Director for Center for Creative Leadership Nordics. She has also worked with Nokia Corporation and SAP in strategic HR and communication roles. After her corporate career, she set up her own business focusing on Executive Coaching, Senior Team Coaching, Facilitation and Organizational Leadership consultancy. Currently she is working part time as a Head of Career Business at Mercer focusing on Strategic Talent Solutions and dedicates the other half of her time to Executive Coaching in her own business at Step Beyond Ltd.

Christel holds a Master’s degree in economics (M.Sc. econ.) in international economics and has completed her Diploma in Advanced Executive Coaching in London, UK. She is a Master Certified Coach (MCC) by International Coach Federation (ICF)  and a Master Accredited coach by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Christel is also a certified Foresight Practitioner at the Institute for the Future, USA, a Certified Agile HR Coach and a certified career and job transition coach.

Teemu Malmi

Teemu Malmi is a Professor of Accounting and Head of the Department of Accounting at Aalto University School of Business. Also, he has previously been the Chairman of the Board at Aalto University Executive Education Ltd. and Sannäs Manor Ltd.

Professor Malmi specializes in management systems, strategy implementation, and cost and profitability accounting. He teaches frequently in a variety of Executive Programs and has served as an advisor to a large number of companies from various different industries: IT, electronics, energy, finance, food, health care, media, metal and engineering, paper and pulp, pharmaceuticals, rental services, retail, telecom and transportation/logistics and the public sector.

Teemu Malmi holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from The Helsinki School of Economics, which was merged into Aalto University in 2010.

Riina Gröhn

Dr. Riina Gröhn specializes in developing leaders to increase their self-awareness and self-leadership skills, to understand what in their own leadership style can work for and against them, and to build emotional intelligence in leading others espec...

As an ICF Certified Coach, she does leadership and career coaching, and she thrives by coaching individuals in self-discovery, navigating through change, career transformations, and to exceed themselves.

Gröhn is a seasoned leader with 18 years of international working experience in leading and developing people and business in executive education and FMCG industry. She has solid experience on learning and development as well as leading renewal and change in organizations. Working and living in Asia has also given her a good perspective on business development with P&L responsibility as well as building partnerships with an international perspective to Europe and Asia. From working in FMCG industry she has years of experience of leading product development and research and innovation management.

She holds a Master’s of Science and Doctorate in the field of health and biosciences at the University of Eastern Finland and at the University of Helsinki, Institute of Biomedicine. In addition, she studied human resources management, leadership, mindfulness and positive psychology at Cornell University ILR School, Darden School of Business and University of California, Berkeley. She is also ICF certified coach (ACC) and certified for several personality and Leadership Assessments (Hogan Assessments, SHL Personality and Ability (OPQ/Verify) Occupational Testing and Kets De Vries Institute Leadership Development Instruments).

Saara Bange

Saara Bange is a coach, trainer, and facilitator in leadership, communication, and collaboration with several years of experience in academia and the industry.

Her topics include self-management and self-awareness, leading with emotional intelligence, and understanding identities and personalities in organizational life.

She works as a Director at Aalto EE, holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Helsinki School of Economics, and is finalizing her Ph.D. in Organizational Studies at the Aalto University School of Business. She has published her research in journals such as the Journal of Management Inquiry and the Journal of Media Management. 

Bange is a certified Hogan Assessment personality profiling consultant, certified WPB5 consultant, certified Personal Resilience Practitioner, and certified emotional intelligence (EQi) assessor. She has worked with several individuals and teams to help them find their potential and leverage their leadership skills. Bange’s clients have complimented her for her caring and passionate approach and her ability to explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand.

Prior to joining Aalto University Executive Education, Bange worked for years with leadership development and strategic communications advisory for leading companies in different sectors. Before that, she worked at the Aalto University School of Economics as a researcher and teacher. Her current research interests lie in the intersection of the future of work and leaders’ identity work.

Nina Granqvist

Nina Granqvist is Professor, Management Studies at Aalto University School of Business. 

Granqvist specialized in studying how new technologies and ideas move from margins to mainstream. She is an expert on technology, market emergence, and the dynamics of disruptions. Nina teaches topics related to strategic management, technology strategy, industrial and organizational change, and renewal of established industries.

She has consulted established companies to renew their business and worked with startups scaling up their businesses.

Through her award-winning research, she has an extensive understanding of the scientific and market development in nanotechnology, material sciences, solar energy, food trends, and quantum computing. 

Her research has been published in the best management journals, including the Academy of Management Journal and Organization Science. Nina was chosen as the Scholar of the Year at Aalto School of Business in Beforeior to her academic career she worked as a consultant for Accenture and a brief time in the media sector at Bertelsmann in Germany.

Risto Sarvas

Risto Sarvas is a Professor of Practice and Head of the Information Networks program at Aalto University.

He has a colorful history overlapping design, business, technology, and society. The common denominator between these three roles is his endless enthusiasm to figure out how technology and society are intertwined: as a culture, in politics, in business, as well as in everyday life.

His research, teaching, and service design work have received several awards and much popularity.

Risto Sarvas holds a doctorate in Media Technology from the Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University).

Jari Ylitalo

Jari Ylitalo, PhD, is a University Lecturer in Leadership at Aalto University School of Science and Aalto Ventures Program.

He teaches, in particular, master's students on leadership, teamwork, and self-management.

Ylitalo's pedagogical approach emphasises a dialogical and resource-oriented approach. He also works as a supervisor, coach, and workplace facilitator. He has a long and diverse experience in coaching and developing leaders, management teams, and organisations in both corporate and public organisations.

Ylitalo's research has focused on leadership and leadership development, with a particular emphasis on the effectiveness of guidance, resource-centred and dialogue-based development approaches. He has also studied the social dynamics and development of cooperation and partnerships between companies and organisations, as well as network management and the development of a network approach.

Olli-Pekka Pohjanmäki

Olli-Pekka Pohjanmäki's areas of expertise include CRM consulting, customer strategies, change management, and relationship marketing.

He is a relationship marketing theory-practice matchmaker whose work experience includes not only managing a specialist organisation but also strong expertise in building and designing relationship strategies. He has a strong interest in the concept of competitive advantage and its discovery at the level of strategic thinking and at the level of concrete everyday life.

Currently, Pohjanmäki is the Marketing Director of LähiTapiola Group and Partner and CEO of Nordic 4sight Communities Oy. He has previously worked as a partner and CEO at Aspectum Oy and as a professor at the University of Kuopio.

Pohjanmäki is a popular performer and a skilled lecturer, who is a pleasure to hear preach the message of relationship marketing in different forums.

He holds a Master's degree in Economics. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis at the University of Jyväskylä.

Pia Lappalainen

Docent Pia Lappalainen is specialized in performance management and productivity, managerial communication, conflict resolution and management, and workplace well-being. 

She is also an experienced management coach and facilitator and a professional conflict mediator of workplace disputes. 

Lappalainen is a Doctor of Science (Technology) and Master of Arts (English, Communications, and Pedagogics).  Currently, she is a Senior Advisor at Aalto EE, a Lecturer at Aalto University, and a Docent of Workplace Conflict and Performance Management at Finnish National Defense University. She has a background in ICT, construction, and oil industries in leadership development, communication, and training tasks.

Joaquín Cava

Joaquín Cava is a Lecturer at the Department of Strategy and General Management at Esade.

Joaquín Cava has developed most of his career at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which he joined in 1994. He became a partner and Vice President of the firm in January 2002. During his career as a consultant, he has worked with a wide range of clients in all sectors: consumer goods, banking, industry (cement, machine tools, metallurgy, etc.), energy, telecommunications, diversified industrial conglomerates, etc. He has been involved in projects in a wide range of functional areas, including: strategic definition and implementation; the design and implementation of business or expansion plans; organizational and process design; the definition of business strategies (channels, products, pricing, etc.); the implementation of plans to improve operational efficiency; management of merger processes and synergies; the valuation of acquisition objectives and participation in due diligence processes; the overseeing of the design and implementation of new strategies for information systems.

While at BCG, Joaquín Cava has also been responsible for the areas of recruitment and marketing at the company's offices in Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon. Before joining BCG, he worked at The Mac Group and Prodesfarma, SA.
