Foundations strengthen leadership skills in the art and culture sector together with Aalto EE

The art and culture sector has been spurred on by global megatrends, changes in work and financial uncertainty to develop its leadership and business skills. The new Business of Culture program seizes the challenge in the Nordic and Baltic countries together with various art and culture sector operators. The program begins in November, with professionals from the art and culture sector supported by the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Föreningen Konstsamfundet and the Kulturfonden för Sverige och Finland.

“We consider it important to improve the culture sector’s capabilities in leadership and international cooperation across sectoral boundaries,” says Petteri Karttunen, Chair of the Board of the Saastamoinen Foundation.

Aalto University Executive Education’s (Aalto EE) Business of Culture is the most broad-ranging program for the development of the art and culture sector, aimed at building the sector's management skills to a whole new level internationally. Business of Culture offers cultural organizations customized tools for strategic development, renewal processes and dealing with challenges in managing change. International experts in science, culture and business will appear as program specialists. The participants offer a broad representation of different artistic disciplines.

“Society needs art as a mirror to itself and for renewal. The role of cultural organizations is vastly important in this to start with. With skillful management and appropriate business competence, cultural organizations can really strengthen their important role in society,” says the program keynote speaker, board professional and business director Karri Kaitue

The Business of Culture program has been designed in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg School of Executive Education, with participation by the Swedish Nationalmuseum.
