Global Leader is a general management training program that can be adapted to your personal development needs and time frame. The program is for developing your business management skills, strategic decision-making abilities, leadership expertise, and professional confidence in an international operating environment.
Studying in the Global Leader program offers many benefits, not only for those who simply wish to study in a compact and efficient general management program, but also for those who are planning to pursue future studies in our EMBA or MBA programs. Global Leader has a very similar program structure, participant profile, and study format to our MBA programs and is often utilized as a springboard to MBA studies, especially Aalto EMBA studies.
Up to six Global Leader modules (27 ECTS credits) can be transferred from the Global Leader program to the Aalto Executive MBA or Aalto MBA program.

This mini-MBA-style program is designed to enhance the participants’ personal skills and competencies as leaders and individuals. The modules also broaden understanding of key management issues, especially in an international business environment.
The Global Leader program is designed for experienced business and team leaders who require the skills to manage global business operations across borders and functions.
It is also relevant for seasoned experts who aspire to build competencies and confidence in making strategic decisions.
The program has a modular structure, consisting of four core modules and two elective modules. Each core module is held once a year, and you can start the program with any of the modules. Elective modules can be chosen from the electives in the Aalto EMBA and Aalto MBA programs. Each program module is worth 4.5 ECTS study credits.
The program is geared towards practical hands-on learning by using case studies and real-world exercises to complement theories. The instruction methods enable the integration of theory and practice. A typical learning module consists of pre- and post-assignments, lectures, discussions, case studies, and group work.
All Global Leader study modules can be taken as stand-alone programs.

As a full program participant of Global Leader, you may choose two elective modules from a large selection offered in the Global Leader, Aalto EMBA, and Aalto MBA programs. You can pick your favorites from a selection of more than 15 topics.

International Study Tours
Study tours take participants to locations such as Yale and Harvard in the USA. The study tour program includes lectures by academics –typically related to the different topics within a broad theme of leadership. A study tour typically consists of four full days of learning and extracurricular activities uniquely available on campus. There is a separate registration process and a separate fee for study tours.
Christel Berghäll
Christel Berghäll’s expertise lies in coaching senior executives, developing senior teams, and developing leadership cultures to drive needed changes to achieve business objectives and implement the strategy.
Her career has been international throughout and she has worked and lived in Finland, Germany, Spain and China and worked as a short-term expert in Africa for many years.
Berghäll brings with her experience both from the corporate and entrepreneurial world. She previously worked as a human resources senior executive at Amer Sports Corporation and YIT Corporation and as a Business Director for Center for Creative Leadership Nordics. She has also worked with Nokia Corporation and SAP in strategic HR and communication roles. After her corporate career, she set up her own business focusing on Executive Coaching, Senior Team Coaching, Facilitation and Organizational Leadership consultancy. Currently she is working part time as a Head of Career Business at Mercer focusing on Strategic Talent Solutions and dedicates the other half of her time to Executive Coaching in her own business at Step Beyond Ltd.
Christel holds a Master’s degree in economics (M.Sc. econ.) in international economics and has completed her Diploma in Advanced Executive Coaching in London, UK. She is a Master Certified Coach (MCC) by International Coach Federation (ICF) and a Master Accredited coach by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Christel is also a certified Foresight Practitioner at the Institute for the Future, USA, a Certified Agile HR Coach and a certified career and job transition coach.
Nermin Hairedin
Nermin Hairedin is Senior Advisor at Aalto University Executive Education and Professional Development.
Nermin Hairedin is a digital, data, and marketing professional. She has an extensive background in digitalizing businesses for over 20 years.
Hairedin has a proven track record of successful turnarounds and growing businesses exponentially, both greenfield and M&A. She has been part of founding Fonecta and worked as one of the pioneers in setting up data-driven businesses. She has held several global senior management positions at Nokia. Her last corporate position was as the Finnish CEO of marketing agency giant Dentsu before moving into board work and entrepreneurship.
Hairedin has practical knowledge of global markets. Her business experience covers services, telecom, media, retail, sales, data&analytics, and marketing. She has specialized in digital transformation, which is all about organizational culture, as well as driving marketing to be a strategic asset for growing company value.
She is currently the co-owner of a customer-friendly IT and software development startup Frumatic Ltd. She also serves as a board executive. In addition, she works as a strategy advisor, keynote speaker, and investor. Hairedin holds an M.Sc. degree from Aalto University (Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration) and has university studies also from France, Turkey, the USA, and Sweden.
Petya Platikanova
Petya Platikanova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting at Esade Business School.
Platikanova is interested in how creditors and financial analysts perceive corporate reporting and tax policy. Her research has been published in leading academic and professional journals, such as Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, European Accounting Review and Financial Analysts Journal, among others.
She serves on the Editorial Board of the Financial Analysts Journal, which focuses on investment management (CFA Institute Publication).
Henri Schildt
Henri Schildt is a Professor of Strategy at Aalto University School of Business and Aalto University School of Science.
Professor Henri Schildt’s research interests span technology strategy, organizational change, and strategy process (with specific interest in reasoning under uncertainty and the use of data analytics). He is currently heading two research programs on data-driven management and the management of digitalization in Finnish manufacturing companies.
He is a tenured professor with a joint appointment at the Aalto University School of Business and the School of Science’s Department of Industrial Engineering and Management.
Henri Schildt completed his PhD at Helsinki University of Technology in 2007.
