Aalto EE to Deliver SECLE-Funded Continuous Education Courses to Promote Mineral Circularity

The Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE) has selected Aalto University Executive Education (Aalto EE) as a training provider for programmes that advance mineral circularity.

13.2.2026

The aim of these courses is to support the mining and construction sectors in transitioning towards more resource-efficient and sustainable practices. They also strengthen expertise in developing solutions and business models built around the mineral circular economy.

Mineral circularity is particularly important in mining and construction, which generate a significant share of Finland’s total waste. The Continuous education courses aim to address this challenge by developing skills that support environmental objectives while enabling practical and economically viable solutions.

Aalto EE will deliver three courses focusing on key aspects of mineral circularity in mining and construction (all courses will be conducted in Finnish):

Utilisation of side streams and waste flows in the mining industry – Exploring opportunities for using waste rock and tailings, the role of technologies, data and digitalisation, and regulatory and safety considerations.

Innovation and commercialisation of circular economy solutions in mining – Developing new solutions, collaboration and ecosystem models, and bringing circular solutions to national and international markets.

Basics of soil and aggregate circular economy in construction – Covering reuse of soil and aggregates, utilisation of recycled materials, digital tools, life cycle assessment, and current regulations in infrastructure and building construction.

Participants can choose the courses that best suit their needs. The courses are designed to be completed flexibly alongside work and will be delivered online. They offer diverse learning methods, including online lectures, expert talks from industry representatives, and practical exercises where participants apply their learning to real-world situations.

“The content has been developed in close collaboration with Aalto University, research institutes, and stakeholders from the mining and construction sectors. Our goal is to provide up-to-date, practical knowledge that supports the development of the mineral circular economy in Finland and responds to the sector’s evolving competence needs,” says Hanna-Riikka Myllymäki, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Aalto EE.

The courses are aimed at professionals, developers, and supervisors in the mining and construction sectors, as well as those working in public administration, research and development, and education. Individuals outside the workforce who are interested in the topic are also welcome to participate. All participants must reside in Finland.

The courses are free of charge for participants and their employers and will be implemented during 2026–2027.

The trainings will begin in spring 2026, and registration is already open
