The Quantum Leap: Exploring the Promise of Quantum Technology

Event Information

Date: Friday June 05, 2026
Time: 11:00–12:00 (EEST)
Location: live online

Quantum technology is advancing rapidly, driving new applications across industries in computing, sensing, and communications. The development of quantum computing is creating entirely new opportunities alongside classical computing rather than replacing it. Many industries are already investing in developing their quantum capabilities to unlock business value and gain a competitive edge.

In this It's FrA!day webinar, we’ll explore the current state of quantum computing and why OP Pohjola has established a quantum research centre to investigate the possibilities of quantum computing and AI in finance. We will discuss real-world applications, emerging use cases, and forward-looking ideas, and what this second quantum revolution can mean to companies and industries.

Expert speakers in the webinar are Professor Juha Muhonen from the University of Jyväskylä and Dr. Juha Vesanto, Director, Quantum and AI Research Centre at OP Pohjola. The webinar is hosted by Dr. Patrick Furu, Director at Aalto EE.

In collaboration:

The webinar is free of charge. We will share the webinar recording after the event with all registrees.

Speakers

Professor Juha Muhonen leads the Hybrid Quantum Technologies in Silicon group at the University of Jyväskylä. The group studies how quantum computer components and quantum sensors could be realized using silicon, which is the current material basis for all modern information technologies. On the fundamental side, the group aims to probe the possible size and time limits of quantum phenomena. Professor Muhonen also teaches the Introduction to Quantum Computing course, is involved in several collaboration projects with the quantum industry, and works as an advisor for companies in the field.

Dr. Juha Vesanto is heading the Quantum and AI Research Centre at OP Pohjola. A data scientist by background, he has been building OP’s AI capabilities since 2018, including setting up the citizen data science community, data mesh, and OP’s responsible AI practices. Most recently, his focus has been on future technologies, such as quantum computing and advanced AI.
