Jari Pirhonen of Tieto chosen as Security Director of the Year

This year, the Security Director of the Year award for achieving distinction and promoting expertise as a leader in the security sector goes to Jari Pirhonen of Tieto Oyj. Aalto University Professional Development (Aalto PRO) and the Finnsecurity Association awarded the prize was awarded this year for the fourth time.

The jury were impressed by Jari Pirhonen’s extensive and diverse range of experience in the security sector, both in different organizations and in roles focusing on information security and companies’ overall security. He has also worked actively as an instructor and speaker, offering his own experiences and knowledge for the development of expertise in the security sector.

Jari Pirhonen’s professional influence is supported by his extensive network and development-focused, open approach, not just to security management, but also to the development of organizations more broadly.

“Understanding of the importance of security in guaranteeing the smooth running and reliability of business operations is growing year on year. However, we as security professionals must also constantly ensure we are keeping abreast of the latest developments, so that we can keep pace with the changes and are able to serve our organizations’ objectives,” emphasizes Jari Pirhonen.

The selection criteria emphasize high performance in challenging management tasks, and having a comprehensive and strategic grasp of security. The winner must also demonstrate an active approach to security and strengthening its strategic position in their own organization and/or sector, and efforts to develop security expertise in Finland.

The jury consisted of Senior Program Manager Anna Maija Ahonen from Aalto PRO, Executive Director Joona Vuorenpää and Chairman Juha Härkönen of the Finnsecurity Association, and Mika Susi, Chief Policy Adviser of the Confederation of Finnish Industries. The award was presented on Thursday 7 November 2019 at the Finnish Security Awards (FSA) 2019 gala.
